Installing Custom Windows In Your Home

Blog

Whether you are building a new home or renovating your old one, installing custom windows in your home can change the entire look and feel of the house. There are so many options available for residential glass that it may be hard to choose the glass you want to use in your home.

Energy Efficiency

One of the most important things you should consider when looking at custom glass windows for your house is the energy efficiency of the glass you are going to use. If the glass has a low rating, you could end up paying more for heat and air conditioning. Check the rating on the glass that will be used to make your custom windows and ask about increasing it if you feel you need to.

When the window company starts building the windows for your home, they can use whatever glass you need them to, but if they have already started making them, it may be too late to change them, so ask in advance.

Custom Sizes

If you want to have some oversize or large windows in your home, the glass company can make them to the size you need. The contractor doing the work on your home will work with the glass company to ensure that the windows are the right size and that they fit properly. The contractor can also help you determine just how large the windows should be to allow the light you want into the home.

In some cases, a large window in a supporting wall may require some special structural support and an engineer may need to design a new wall structure to support the glass and the roof of the home.

Tinted Glass

Another option you may want to consider for your custom windows is using a tinted glass that will help control the temperature inside your home. The tinting is available in many different levels and can reduce the sunlight coming into the home. Keep in mind that even though it is keeping the house cooler in the summer, tinting the windows can reduce the heat from the windows in the colder months as well.

Integrated Blinds

Another option that some companies offer and maybe something you want to add to your windows is the integration of the blinds into the windows, The blinds are installed inside the window between the two panes of glass. The blinds never get dusty or damaged as a result because they are sealed inside the window.

Often the blinds are available in many colors, but neutral colors might be the best option because the blinds cannot be changed later if you change the color scheme and decor in the room.
