When It Comes To A Damaged Windshield, There Is A Lot At Stake

Blog

A cracked windshield is rarely ever a part of the plan. No matter how you save and plan, it seems like this type of repair always comes at the worst possible time. For this reason, it is common for vehicle owners to try and put off this repair for as long as they can. However, this practice is not always the best one to follow.

Some Repairs are Urgent

Not all windshield damage is considered the same. There are some instances where the vehicle owner may be able to put off repairs for a short amount of time if absolutely necessary, but then there are occasions when the vehicle must be repaired right away.

As a general rule, any windshield damage that occurs on the driver side of the glass must be repaired promptly, as it can impede the driver's vision. Additionally, any large cracks also require prompt repairs. If your damage falls into either of these categories, you cannot wait.

Early Repairs Keep Costs Low

Although you might want to put off repair to your auto glass right now because of financial concerns, keep in mind, that the cost associated with the damaged glass can get worse with time. First, a significant crack on the driver's side of the window can lead to a ticket or fine if spotted by a police officer.

Second, cracks and chips have a tendency to expand with time. So, the longer you wait to have the repair performed, the greater the threat that the damage gets worse, which can mean more expensive repairs.

Waiting on Repairs Can Be Dangerous

It is always best to have the glass inspected by a professional to see where you stand, as waiting on repairs can often put your safety in jeopardy. When the glass is damaged, some of its integrity is lost. Any reduction in the integrity of the glass makes it more susceptible to breaking with even the slightest amount of impact, such as from a minor fender bender. You keep your safety at the forefront when you go ahead and have repairs performed promptly, even if it is not exactly what you want to do.

If your windshield is cracked, at the very least, you need to take your vehicle to a repair professional as soon as you can. A repair professional is the only one that can assess the damage to the glass and let you know what your best course of action is.
